Went to Bowes show today, the weather was glorious and we had great fun, Sooty behaved well and get two rosettes, the dogs were well behaved too. We all had a super day in wonderful surroundings, makes you remember why we do it. There was lots of natives there, I wonder if there were any other dalesfans present?  (smilies irrellevent I just couldn't resist them)  |

Oooh that was the first show i ever drove at a couple of years back, its a lovely show. Only downfall is they don't have a class for Dales stallions (or anywhere for them to fit in) so we won't go all that way with just the youngsters.

Alison, yes i took Rose to Bowes for the yearling class. Entries were a bit mixed for the Dales classes, and there were only two in our class. Both called Rose! Westwick Rose won the class - she's a lovely pony, and it's so nice to see how she's coming along, having first seen her win at the foal show last November. Owned by my nearest "Dales neighbours" too, so it was good to have chance to chat to them a bit more. We only live less than 10 miles apart.
Brian was riding someone else's Dales in the ridden class, and the Thompsons were there too, but I think only with their very lovely chestnut "non-Dales".
It's not a show I'd take an undisciplined pony to (!). Ponies and people etc EVERYWHERE along a quite narrow corridor between the trailer park and the rings. Kids hooling inbetween the chaos on tiny out of control ponies (or actually I think it was probably one little girl on the same little pony carrying on going up and down for ages, and her parents had clearly left the county for the day to be rid of this pesky child, so she was causing chaos and enjoying every minute of it apparently). Oh, to be that age and have no sense of how rude and risky it is to do that kind of thing, and to have no idea of (or responsibility for) any ensuing vets bills!
The show was just lovely though. Well worth having a day out at. Proper Dales (as in the place, not the pony) show. The exit route was quite interesting though. A one way system through quite a few fields with stock in, gates to open/close, a hill to climb, and then a right turn across the central reservation of the A66.
I'd go again though, with or without a pony.

Thanks Penny! My Rose was nicely chilled about the whole outing, and seemed to take all the comings and goings in her stride....... which bodes well for a nice bold sensible riding pony in a few years time, I hope! No more outings planned for her this year. She's seen enough of the world for the moment!

I know what you mean Sarah, Maria did 4 shows this year, including the Derbyshire Fell & Dales, The Royal and Gt Yorkshire, so I too believe she needs leaving alone. She is well travelled and happy with what she has done.

Ahh well done Sarah, i know what you mean. I find egglestone the hairiest out of all those for choas entrance to the ring but they all are busy busy shows. We've just packed clemmie up for the year too....last week was her *cough*18th*cough* show of the year  ;D ;D LOL (we were just totting up scores for these point chart thingys). She probably won't go out as a two year old though. |

Bless her! Clemmie's been a BUSY girl, hasn't she! Interesting to hear about Egglestone show. Had got the details on that one, but haven't entered and have never been there, but it's well worth knowing that it's a hectic one!

Egglestone is really lovely (well all of those shows up there are...proper dales shows if you know what i mean) but it was seriously hair raising for my second ever driving show - they also have trotting down on the flat bit at the bottom of the hill (its the same showground as the DPS shows) which is different.

Yes, we were there Sarah. We only took Binty as I was probationary judge,unfortunately. Never mind I am finished that now and just awaiting the outcome. Rose has altered a lot since Cleveland show. She doesn't look a baby anymore and goes really well for you. Binty, the welsh one, did well winning her class and then the Championship but was beaten in the supreme once again by Westwick Heather. I think we are standing at 2-2 at the moment. We must have missed that there was an exit route as we came out the same way we went in.
