Hi everyone Unfortunately Jay's WH class at the NW Counties Champs last month was cancelled due to the wet ground. I've received a letter saying they've rescheduled classes for next month, however there'll be no WH classes...instead they've entered us into the style and performance class I haven't a clue what it entails all the letter says it that it will be over coloured show jumps. Does anyone know anything about these classes? It should be INTERESTING anyway...Jay and I don't really do style, we just opt for survival!

I think its a round of jumps, and its based on how well you go round and your horses style of jumping. Good luck

I would say it is the same in principal as your WH class, but over coloured's rather than rustics. I think they are trying to reiterate that because it is over show jumps, it isnt the same principal - e.g. the 'setting up' and paces etc. When I was preparing to enter my disastorous WH my instructor was drilling into me that because it is jumping, it is not showjumping - there for let him go for it! WH go for it - so if D was pulling for it - let him and kick him on! They are meant to look eager! All the way around my prep I was chanting to myself 'workers go faster, workers go faster' LOL I think it is saying - performance wise, they should jump it, and want to jump it. The performance will be based on the fact that they want to do it - and not how they look whilst doing it! I should imagine the 'style' part is your personal show, like normal. You may find that the class has been re-named so it is open to ALL types of horses and not just your WH as it is over the coloureds. Or - i could have just typed a load of cr*p!!!

Hmmm my understanding of style and performance is slightly different.
There is no personal show, just a set of jumps. You then get two sets of marks, one (performance) is for getting a clear round, no refusals etc etc.
The style set of marks is judged on how you jump them, e.g. nicely set up, good rhythm and pace (e.g. nice bouncy canter, not a flat out gallop) willingness to jump etc etc.
Maybe it's different at different shows?!?!?

I would have also thought it would have been a good approach, at a steady canter on the right stride, shortening and lengthening if need be rather than flat out? Also on how you ride and how your horse jumps?

my friend used to do WH all the time, and regularly went to Puk and would fall off!!!!!! The one time she chose to do style and performance, her horse was an absolute angel, and they WON!!! It was all about the picture they created whilst jumping, so yes, going clear matters, but also, the whole picture is important!
