Well after all the problems with his hock etc last summer, I never thought we would get there but today we tackled our first elementary dressage competition. I did 2 tests, the first was novice 33 and that wasn't too bad at all we came 6th with 60.4% to some very nice horses as it was Etal Manor where the standard always seems to be higher than our local ones. He just wasn't that switched onto me and was a bit fizzy. Then came elementary 41, which we got 59.7% in which I am thrilled about , being elementary we got to wear a double bridle which really helped with the submission, lol! We ever got 2 8's for the halts and I got a 7 for my riding so Im thrilled. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that he is sound tomorrow as we have Peter Maddison-Greenwell lessons at the weekend. Danny is now tucked up in bed after lots of hugs, kisses and praise, I do love my boy!!! Didn't get any pics in the actual tests as they were either indoors or in a walled garden but did manage to get some in the warm up. This one is my favourite

Congratualtions Kristy and Danny!!!!!!!!!! That's a tremendous result, a great achievement! I know the standard at Etal is usually very high so well done both of you! Danny is looking superb! May I make a prediction - you will be doing your first Medium this year too! (she says enviously!)

WOW Kristy - that's fantastic. Well done you and Danny. And what wonderful ambassadors for the Dales breed you both are.
Fingers crossed he's sound today and you have a good PM-G lesson.

He looks cracking! And what fantastic scores.
Please dont take this next comment as anything other than a query as I dont mean it as anything but that, and certainly not a criticism - I noticed on your pics that he spends his time with his mouth open, gobbing at you,as I like to put it when he is working. ;D has he always done this, as dancer does EXACTLY the same!!! Although ours is open slightly wider! LOL It drives me mad!!! I have tried all sorts to stop it as it has lost me places in the show ring before as it look like he is not 'submitting' and accepting the bit.
Has he ever been driven? I blame dancers mouth on a too tight driving chain.

Thanks guys andthe good news is that other than looking a bit stiff on his right hind this morning he looked sound when I trotted him up this morning and looked better again for being out all day. Taking him for a little hack in the morning so we will see.
Pam, I dont know about that as that is a very scarey thought!!!
Jo, dont worry its fine. Yes Danny is particulaly gobby in most bits and having tried everything under the sun bit wise I have just learned to accept it. Like you say it is a submission thing as Danny just locks his Jaw against me. The only bit he doesn't do it in is the Myler MB05 that has a low but wide port as his gives him room for his toungue. He is more gobby at a competition as I am more tense so dont have as forgiving and soft a rein contact as I should.

Glad you didnt think I was been offensive LOL I have found that 'throwing the contact' at Dancer makes him shut up shop for a while - but it is a constant battle. I do cheat a little and put a flash on whilst working in, then just get someone to whip it off before i go in the ring! Sometimes he humours my crafty attempts!!

Well done Kristy and Danny!!!! Given how much struggle you've been going through over his hocks, I think this is briliant!!! LOL...I thought his mouth being open like that was the usual chomping/chewing I see with the dressage horses....some of them reall 'gum' the bit when they're into the competition.
