???The show season started here on the 11Feb07. We declined going to the show. The blizzard was a real show stopper. There is another one on the 11Mar07. It has not been warm enough for us to work the horses, ponies, and mules. I want to get going but the weather is not helping. On wednesday we are going to have another NorthEastern. Really cold terrrible weather. Even with an indoor it is too cold to work them. What do ya'll do?

Pass on showing until it warms up Also, aren't there a lot of big name breeders/trainers based in New York that go down to Florida for winter training? I think footing is one of the hardest things to overcome during a strong winter. There's just no getting around the permafrost.

What type of classes are they doing? Is there any way to practice with them with maybe a rug over their harness or tack? Just thinking of the quarter rugs I've seen for clipped horses that need excercised in the winter....
For the human riders, I had to go through that back in the winter of '88 and we hit below zero weather for weeks. I ended up wearing panty hose of all things beneath thermal long johns, and then my jods (looked like a stuffed sausage!), but the absolute worst was my hands. Even with three layers I had to have someone hold my pony long enough to thaw them out by stuffing them into my armpits. And that just barely made them function long enough for the 45 minute lesson.
