I'm taking Bea to a working hunter show tomorrow - our first show together, and only my second. We're doing the novice class (for me, not him) where the jumps are 2' max. We did 2'6" in our lesson today, so we should manage OK.
If he's in a reasonable mood and we're enjoying ourselves I might do the Riding Club Horse class as well.
He's had his bath (and rolled afterwards LOL) and is newly shod and I think I've got everything....even his passport! All we need is a fine day and for Bea to be in a relaxed frame of mind.
Pleeeease spare us some thoughts tomorrow afternoon and send me bravery vibes! LOL

Good luck, have fun, stay calm and remember to breath. If you're doing 2'6" in your lessons the class should be fine.

Not such a successful day.... Bea and I retired from the showing class. He was fine until we got into the warm-up ring, but he needs time to work and settle and let the excitement out of his system. The warm-up ring was a quagmire and I hardly dared canter him. We trotted round and he did his usual squealing and head shaking and put in some little humpy bucks - usual stuff for him until he gets settled. I tried a couple of canters, but it wasn't ideal and rather greasy on the corners. So we went into the ring a bit hyper anyway and the minute he thought he was going to jump his brain-cell blew and he started to spook and buck and even put in a couple of small rears. A stronger and more confident rider might have just got on with it - but I knew he'd jump erratically so I asked the judge if we could retire. It was so disappointing - particularly as I had the confidence to actually contemplate doing the course which included lots of things we'd not faced before. Ah well - I'll know not to go to that venue again if we've had heavy rain....unless they can drain the warm-up ring a bit better. I thought Bea looked beautiful though and we'd have had a good chance of a rosette if he could only have kept his wits!! Some pics Getting ready......note Bea snoozing LOL Ready to go.... The quagmire....would you have warmed up in that?

I'm sure you made the right decision. There will be many other opportunities. I was thinking of you when the torrential rain started here. There is no way I would want to risk a horse of mine in conditions like that - simply not worth it. What a pity, all that hard work and preparation but I'm glad you decided to withdraw. The going looks diabolical! Bea looks fab btw!
Where was the show? It must have been disappointing for the organisers but nothing one can do about the weather.

Well done for having a go Sue even if Beaver [who I'm sure Sue won't mind me saying came across as a "Dope on a rope" while tied to the trailer......] he was that laid back he looked like he would fall asleep soon had other ideas! The warm up area was disgusting and I really don't understand why the dressage competitors had a good arena to work in with a proper surface but the area Sue had to use was MUD MUD and More MUD!!

You both looked fantastic! I'm so proud that you went in the ring and gave it a go, especially once you'd seen the jumps!!
Bring on the next show! (I'll have the hip flask ready)

Oh what a shame, when your adrenalin is up and after all that preparation you must feel quite low, better luck next time. Warm up area quite horrific, more like a swimming pool!
