Sorry it didn't go as you wanted Sue, but better to come out and want another go rather that do it if you're really not happy, knowing it isn't going to go well and never want to do it again!!! I know what you mean about the losing the head about jumping, Lea is the same, sometimes her state of mind lets us jump and other times she's just completly bonkers so we might as well forget it else we'll just end up upside down. Good on ya for giving it a go he might be more settled next time if it was his first and your second & no I wouldn't have warmed up in that arena. You both look fab though!!!! Well done!! xxx

Sorry things didn't go to plan Sue, but the warm up area looks awful and I wouldn't have been happy in those conditions - what was the actual showing area like? Jumping in wet weather is horrible, not to mention the risk of slipping. I remember once Anna doing an open class in horizontal driving rain, and her pony was going round with her ears pinned back on her head and eyes shut lol! You both look extremely smart anyway and there is always the next time. I was thinking of you when torrential rain started here around midday - and hasn't stopped since !!

The main arena wasn't too bad, although the ground was pretty soft and puddly in places. I aimed to avoid those.
We were all waiting to be called in, when a woman on a large grey trotted into the warm up ring, past us all and into the arena where she proceeded to walk the course ON HER HORSE and then jumped the course. When she'd finished, she trotted out, straight past us all and away..... She didn't even have a number on.
We were all gobsmacked!! Perhaps she didn't want to risk the ground getting too poached before she went in - I dunno. But it was a bit rude......
I've since heard that quite a few people didn't bother going because they knew the warm up arena would be horrible. It's a bit much when you spend ages getting your horse ready and then have to paddle through mud before you even get into the ring.

I think you are so brave! (whether you actually competed or not!) LOL
You & Bea both looked fantastic. The warm-up arena looked liked an accident waiting to happen though.

Never mind there is always another day! You dont want to dent your confidence if the conditions arent right, or things arent going well. Very smart you look too!!

Blooming heck- think I recognise the car park, if its where I think it is why have a collecting ring like that when they've spent so much on the arenas?? Its been fenced off each time we've been to BSJA and was bad last summer when it was dry!! Well done though for even trying to warm up!! If you want some quiet SJ events to get going with East Farm was very quiet and friendly. They havent run recently though. Also YM is thinking about running some as we now have a school- starting small and we're all friendly but is waiting for new jumps

You definitely recognise it Emily!! I won't be going again. The new arenas are lovely and the dressage warm up area is spot on. But the SJ warm up needs some serious drainage.
Lisa has just let me know that the new arena at East Farm is finished, so I think I'll take Bea there because I like the atmosphere and the friendliness. I'm also going to go to the GG Centre and pop him over some of the jumps there. He just needs loads more outings to get him out of the safe, quiet cocoon that is our yard. Hopefully then he won't get quite so excited LOL

What a pity, you both looked fantastic, a winning combination I'm sure. Think you made the right decision though, that warm up ring looks dreadful. The weather is one thing we can do nothing about.

We're off to that venue on Thursday (BSJA) but they always jump on the surface and use the decent warm up. The car park alone scares me!! Good to hear East farm is finished- they were really nice when we were last there. Must get over to the GG centre too as it looks fantastic! Not so sure Yeti and Paddy would agree

I know what you mean about the car park, Emily. When we went it was packed out and we had to squeeze on the end of a line near the dressage warm up ring - and the surface was dreadful - all half bricks and chunks of stuff, very uneven. If a horse tripped and went down on that stuff it'd rip its knees for sure - and no saying what would happen to a human landing on it.
Have fun on Thursday. Jumping on the new surface will be lovely!!

Im not jumping- go as groom with YM for her youngsters, hence get nervous in the car park about any tantrums etc! Surface is spot on- it was terrible when it went down!!!

you did do the right thing Sue.
We have missed shows because of similar conditions. It is really not worth risking their legs or your own confidence!
