Anyone got one? I am on the verge of getting one as me and Other half always forget to get bread for Mondays and I am thinking if I had one of these I could put it on a sunday night when no shops are open to buy bread and have it ready for Mon morning! But have heard a v v v good report and a v bad report, and now I am confused! Dad loves his and says its brill, Other half's sister sold hers and said it went off quickly, and was too much hassle......I need a third opinion at least, but the more the merrier!!
Also, if I get one do they vary that much as the prices seem to!!

We've got one, Tom loves it and uses it all the time for his bread, I don't like the bread that it makes, to me it seems to be under cooked and damp - it all smells lovely though I'd rather use it to make the dough then bake it in the oven. Ours is a Panasonic and cost about £80, we've just bought Sara one from Lidl and it cost £24 she hasn't tried it out yet ity was bounght mainly for the dough making prog cheaper than a Kenwood Chef lol

We're searching for a replacement one atm as ours broke.
We found that getting the machine to bake the bread did make it quite solid. However if you get the machine to do the dough making, then you can cook the loaf in the oven like normal. This makes a much lighter more pleasant loaf.

iv just vrought one of my friend and i love. i put it on at night and set the timer and its ready in the morning and smells really lovely..
would def recommend one,, but a decent one is the way to go i think.

I've got one, a Panasonic (model SD 253) and it makes fab bread, I've never had a loaf less than perfect except when my scales went wrong! Takes under 5 mins to put all the ingredients together then just leave it. You can use it to make all kinds of dough as well. Only problem is that it makes me eat too much bread! I can't remember how much it cost, around £75-£80 I think.

Mine is a Morphy Richards, cost about £24.99 several years ago and makes lovely bread. Smells so nice. It has been very reliable.

We have a Panasonic one and it's great, we use it all the time. I would definitely recommend that you spend a bit extra and get a Panasonic one. They always come out best in the reviews. I have friends who bought a cheaper make and theirs now just sits in the cupboard unused.

Mine makes horrible rubber bread!! So its been banished to the back of the cupboard until we make pizza!! It does make good yoghurt though in its defence!

We have one and we love it, although it's definitely better with wholemeal and multi-grain flour rather than white. Great for sun-dried tomato ciabatta to go with pasta too!
Your sister-in-law is right when she says the bread doesn't keep - it has to be eaten on the day that you make it or it goes stale. I look on this as a GOOD thing. It proves it's not crammed full of preservatives like shop-bought loaves!
If you set the timer overnight, the smell of fresh-baked bread wafting up from the kitchen is wonderful. Definitely makes it easier to get out of bed and see to the horses ! Watching it knead is also strangely addictive (how sad is that???)

It does go a bit hard after a couple of days, but as Gill says, use it for toast.
I have a 'Miller's Choice' one, I think it was from Comet. It is fine as long as you get everything in the right order - if not it makes rubbery bricks that even the dogs won't tackle LOL!
I love it but don't use it enough.
Make sure you use fresh flour rather than something that has been languishing in the cupboard for years. I mix white and malted flour together to make a lovely grainy loaf.

I would go for it. We like ours. We paid about £45 for ours around 3 years ago. My son uses it most, and he has adapted the recipe the book that came with it for white bread and it is now lovely although it did used to be slightly solid. I would think solid bread is more the recipe than the machine in that case.
