I noted the mineral supplement I have for Blossom was oxydizing, so I sprung for some Source to replace her current one. It came in time for her teatime preparations, and boy was I right about the other needing replaced! This was fresh....like smell like it has just been drug out of of the ocean, beat a little bit and thown into a bucket fresh. So I only put about 1/3 the amount she'll be receiving into her tea. Did she notice?? Oh yes But it didn't put her off eating her tea for very long. I notice she'd licked the bucket clean ;D

lol! Bobs is the same, anything new he fishes around for a while then decides he will eat it anyway! I have one of those himalayan salt licks in his stable because it had magnesium in it and he used to lick it like a lolly! every morning there would be a big slaver patch on the floor then I got some magnesium supplement and he hasnt touched it since! Just goes to show they take what they need.

That's really interesting about the magnesium supplement. I wonder if he was seeking that out in the Himalayan salt?? Blossom's quickly decide the Source seaweed is okay. Not her favorite thing in the world, but not bad enough to put her off. I think its the smell more than anything, as she easily licks the bucket clean. Why can't the things that are good for us taste like a hot fudge sundae??

Yes I do think he was seeking out the magnesium, I was trying to get hold of a mag block ages ago that is for cattle but couldnt get hold of one so I got the himalayan salt lick instead and he loved it. Zelda I got the magnesium from the metabolic horse group on Yahoo. Its about 35.00 but it lasts forever so is really cost effective. Iv had him on formula 4 feet too which is the same price but only lasts a month!

I've put Quest on the same magnesium supplement. I thought it might be an idea to try Harvey on a tiny amount of it too, as a precaution, but he wouldn't touch it. It was quite funny. I always have the breakfasts in the stables, open the field gates and Harvey walks in on his own and tucks into his food. The day I tried the magnesium supplement he walked into his stable as usual, sniffed it, turned round, walked out of his stable and came to find me. The look on his face had me in stitches - I'm sure he was saying "Mum, I think you've made a mistake with my breakfast"!

Debbie, I've got that Himilayan salt for Knight & topaz too, in addition to their plain salt & they pick back & forth what they want.
Pam, I can just imagine Harvey's face! How could you do that, mess up a perfectly good breakfast? Knight is more basic, takes a tenative sniff, makes a face and then eats the whole bowl anyway.

Daisy has the himilayan salt. She likes it. But, she isn't picky. (unless it isn't food)
I pulled Daisy's food bucket out. She has a ground feeder.

Good grief Heather! I'm afraid if Blossom pulled that stunt I'd be telling her same as the cat ~ tough, that was breakfast and you won't get anything else til supper. Luckily she's only done the tip the bucket thing. She got exceptionally mad when I first added her sweetfeed to the wet beetpulp. Enraged actually. She couldn't understand why her food had to be wet. She's gradually realized the wet stuff is all she'll be getting for buckets, and she's settled down with the concept. Anne, what's the ground feeder you use for Daisy?? LOL, I've thought about the himalayan salt lick, but I think I'd end up knicking it for a lamp instead ;D They've got the regular trace and salt blocks in the field.

I have the himalayan salt lick too but they don"t seem to want it. Also tried the codlivermins supplements. Boy, you should have seen Magic"s face! She is such a greedy girl but not this. She would not eat it and made such a fuss! They now have Equivite and so far so good.... Also they are on spillers cool fibre now (normally on hi fi lite) which has magnesium added. This has gone down a storm with both and the electric fencing is getting a battering in their desperation to get to their meals!
