I've been wanting to take Jay hunting for a couple of years now, but never really mustered up enough courage to do it. Today I had a newsetter through the post from one of the venues that we've done a hunter trial and it was advertising a 'newcomers day' with the Cheshire Forest. Well I've gone and booked us in, so there's no going back now!

I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time! In fact, I expect you'll get the bug and become a regular. Jay is going to love it and Harvey says can you take him along too please?

Thanks, Its been something i've wanted to do for ages, so I'm glad i've finally made the move and booked it.
Just a couple of things I wanted to ask...I don't have a black jacket, so will have to wear my tweed. I don't have a stock yet though. Am I better going for a plain white/cream one, or one of the slightly patterned ones, or doesn't it matter so much?
Do you think I should put boots on Jay? He's never caught himself when jumping before, but I tend to put boots on his fronts anyway just as a precaution. I don't have any rear ones as yet, but should I get some to be on the safe side?

It's been a long time since I last went hunting but I used to wear a spotted stock with my tweed jacket. I don't think it really matters so wear what you feel happiest with.
Boots are a bit of a dilemna. If Jay doesn't catch himself, then I wouldn't use hind boots at all if it is as muddy where you are as it is here. don't know what the others think?

You will have a great time. I have been out today the first time since the beginning of Jan, due to hurting my ankle. UUUMMM, i am aching from head to toe so will be heading for a hot bath in a few mintues, LOL.
Tweed jacket is fine and to be fair our local hunt only wear tweed since the ban. I tend to wear a patterned stock with my tweed jacket.
If you don't normally put rear boots on, i wouldn't worry about getting some. I only wear fronts.
I hope someone will be around to take some photos so you can share them with us all. Remember have a good time and enjoy yourself.

Brilliant - you'll have a fantastic time I wore tweed with cream stock - but only because i only have a cream stock for evening performances - I would have preferred to wear a patterned stock! I didn't put any boots on Sonny (but we weren't jumping)
