There are aphids on my roses as live as can be - and it hasn't got above freezing all day! Mind you, the roses are growing against a wall so are a bit sheltered, but I never thought to see aphids in February!

oh good grief!!!! what time of year do they usually appear? i will go out and look at my roses too tomorrow!!! how long do they live for?could it be that they have hatched or whatever they do?in the sun and will die off over night?

Crikey! Aphids must be getting tougher to survive these low temps! It's been down to -8 round here but I suppose there is a lot of retained heat from a wall.

Unbelievable, I've also seen midges all winter. But I suppose we haven't had any cold to speak of until just lately, so they've had time to hatch. I had flies in the house last week when it was warm!

Too cold for ladybirds at the mo...... Anyway, the roses are now covered with tiny frozen little bodies....all dead!

It's all mad mad mad There were loads of little dung beetles on the piles in the field the other week, and I spotted a dandelion in flower yesterday
