i have just sat through the last in the series of ross kemp in afghanistan,blubbered my way through it....

firstly i want to say it was a fantastic series,and ross kemp whom i have never been interested in before (thug!) was marvelous,he was so well, marvelous...so well presented,informative,and as my son has said extremely true,all of it,not hyped up for tv viewings at all.....but why oh why wasnt it on itv or bbc ? so everyone could watch it? i dont know it almost seems to me like no-one is interested in the war in afghanistan,no-one cares.....and as for the news!!!! the other day the biggest suicide bombing to date in afghanistan happened in kandahar huge afghan casualties and how much tv news did it make? seconds!!!! and then tonight whilst typing this a brief momentary mention of the lads who have died in the yorkshire regiment today,on patrol !!! seconds thats all, and yet al fyed,maccas divorce and northern rock have had hours of air time today,no doubt entire programmes!!!.........whats it all about?



well i suppose its just because its all so personal to me..

so rant over!!! the good news is,my little boy is coming home this week...
hopefully he will be back in the uk thursday night,as long as theres no hold ups in kandahar!! ie suicide bombers!! so we should be able to pick him up friday night....oh i cant tell you how excited we are...we have xmas to re-enact,my bday,dons bday,new year,dads/johns bday all to celebrate!! and we are franticly trying to get his bedroom ready,he didnt have one before he went! so carpets coming thurs,bed thurs,a bit of electrics,plaster,paint ...i tell you its like DIY SOS here at the moment!!!...i have been painting tonight with a hot bean bag pressed to my face,tooth abcess!! repeat after to me " i will not be beaten-i will not be beaten-i will not be beaten" well not untill its all done!!

so all keep your fingers crossed for his safe return to his mummy on friday....i cant contain myself!!

I suppose they (the newsmakers) think that Al Fayed, Paul McCartney and Northern Rock are more interesting to more people than Afghanistan, which until very recently seemed to be the forgotten war. World history is in the making in Kosovo as well - but we've not seen much of that on the news.

I've had enough of the news - it's depressing and seedy and more often than not shows human beings in the worst possible light, quite omitting all the wonderful things that happen every day.

Sue's absolutely right! I think it's an insult to our inteligence to assume we are all more interested in Paul McCartney than what is going on in Afghanistan and Kosovo. I tend to listen to BBC R4 for news and info rather than TV but even that leaves much to be desired although they do have some interesting 30 minute programmes on subjects like Afghanistan.

We have watched all of these reports from Ross Kemp, very close to our hearts as we are in Norfolk, and my sister-in-law knows quite a few of the lads. Ross Kemp's parents live just 10mins up the road from us.
When the boys came home there was a massive welcome home parade through Norwich for them, absolutely fab turnout. But so unfair for the boys from other regiments who had to march through empty streets, it really saddens me that they do not get the recognition they deserve, some of them are just baby's doing a mans job, and getting no thanks for it at all.
