It was mine and Jay's first day out hunting on Saturday and we had a great time! We only stayed out for a couple of hours, but Jay's not his fittest at the moment because I've been having problems with my shoulder. He got very excited when he saw all the other horses at the meet (there was a field of about 50!), and was very strong for a while but I managed to keep hold of him and he didn't run riot like a few of the others there! ;D
My friend who taught Jay to jump was there on one of her point to pointers, so she looked after us. Jay even tried to take Monty on at one point, as they were side by side eying each other up and Jay really tried to pull forward The first jump was a smallish log which Jay had to clear by a long way! Then the 2nd was a wooden fence. He was approaching the fence really well and we were just about to take off, but Jay got put off by a horse to his side that was out of control and took off diagonally just bumping him. So Jay quickly swerved to the side and put in a HUGE leap over the barbed wire to the side of the jump! I had a heart attack but thankfully he cleared it with plenty of room to spare. I dread to think what would of happened if he hadn't, but I'm glad he took the decision to still jump because I doubt we would have stopped in time and probably would have ended up stuck in it. He then refused twice at the next jump, but I didn't push him anymore than that because I was worried he was put off by the horse at the jump before.
We only stayed out for 2 hours, but my friend didn't want to push her horse too much and Jay was starting to really tire so we called it a day and walked back. We had a great day and will definitely go again. I've only just stopped aching though! ;D
Here's a few pictures of the meet....
And a few of Jay...
His slimline bottom!
And exhausted at the end!
