Apollo arrived with one of these but i put him in a full cheek French link to get him to drop his head.
A few hanging cheek queries (do NOT laugh at the first one LOL!)
- I assume the little ring is attached to the cheek piece, and the reins go on the big ring? - I also assume it gives a little poll pressure? - Will my brakes be any better in this than a full cheek?
Apollo is generally very good, and also runs out of air because of his roaring, but he did take off with me the other week and stuck his head between his knees!! I'm just wondering if the hanging cheek bit will help a bit with the brakes without being too severe.

I really like hanging cheek snaffles, esp french links! Yup, little ring to cheek piece, reins on big ring, it does give poll pressure, not sure on the brakes bit, and if his head's going down when he goes for it the poll pressure might not be the best? our ponies go nicely in them when they're in one, if I need brakes for Molly I put her in the hanging cheek waterford because you can ride really gently in it until you need to put the brakes on.

When I first drove Sporty I used one of these and he went really well in it, it will give a little poll pressure so good for ponies who respond well to that. I have to say I ride Sport in a double bridle and he loves it and I can use exactly the right amount of brakes for the situation. 90% of the time I ride him on the snaffle but if he takes a hold or gives a buck (not often I admit) but I have the curb if I need it. If you have indepedent hands (which I'm sure you do) it is really fab all rounder. We shall check just how much bakes we have with the curb tomorrow as I am taking him hunting for the first time!!!!

I ride Saturn in a mullen mouth baucher and while he's generally okay he can be rather hard to stop if he gets excited riding in company - he just takes hold of the bit! The mullen mouth is probably the most effective with a hanging cheek for poll pressure but I may have to experiment with different bits to stop him leaning (although he doesn't seem to like jointed snaffles).

yes, yes and yes, if in doubt a drop nosband works very well with these

I ride Storm in a french link hanging cheek snaffle now and she is going really well in it.

I swapped to a straightforward snaffle, and now he's off work GRR!
