It is cold, it is wet and it is windy. In fact it has been windy since last Thursday, and wet since then too apart from bits at the weekend!!
The wind must be gusting to about 70 mph, and the rain is coming across the front of the house in sheets!!
The rivers are all really high again and the little horses and sheep are of course in the trees - on the river bank!! I always worryabout them in case the river comes up and cuts them off. I might shift the sheep up to the top field for tonight.
And the little horses (Jenny and Monty) have been evicted from their shed by 2 elderly sheep who managed to eat enough food for 10 sheep, pretty much between them!! They had VERY sore tums on Sunday, and have been shut in the shelter ever since and there they will stay until their bloated bellies subside! They are very happy to be in the shed not out in the rain though, but Jenny and Monty are most displeased.
I think it is to stay vile for a few more days - we're doing a pleasure ride at the weekend which is in forestry so it will be fine, but I have to cross a long and high bridge to get there and that's not much fun in the wind. I've just heard on the traffic news that the bridge is closed to high sided vehicles tonight.
Hey ho, time to put the heating on and stay put I think!!

That sounds really nasty. It's been lovely here - sunny and blowy. Just right for a long dog walk.

Oooh, is it going to be safe to ride in the forest with all those high winds, Jane?? We had to watch for the trees when we lived on the Oregon coast with all those high winds and mud, the trees just listed right over. Sure hope the winds and rain subside soon for you. You're right, that's some truly horrid weather.

Been out and moved the sheep up to the top field. The police have been on the phone - we are now on flood warning as the wind is pushing the swollen river over the dam - which isn't all that far from us as the water flows! We've been out and fenced the little horses onto the top half of the field out of the way of the runs should the river get that high - it is already in the field. They have the side of the shed and a couple of trees for shelter - it is actually quite calm where they are. Monty is very good at finding sheltered spots, he's like a cat! Catching Jenny at any time is hard, catching her in a howling gale and pouring rain is a no-go, so fencing them off was the safest bet. She had gone off on her own and was yelling her head off so we had to gently herd her back towards Monty - who didn't leave his sheltered spot LOL! It is so hard with her because she's so wary and can't see too well either.
Hunker down and stay warm now I think, and hope it stops soon. We can't hear boulders coming down the river, which we have before when it really flooded - scary! I'll try to get pics tomorrow.
Debbie, if it is too bad they will cancel the ride - the forest is quite sandy so it could be dodgy after a lot of rain plus high wind. Harley might have to do some jumping!!!

Oh Jane, that sounds really scary! I hope you are all safe and warm for the night. Fingers crossed the flooding doesn't get any worse. What a worry for you.

We have got the galeforce winds - but not the rain thankfully.
I do hope the rain stops soon and does not flood you out.

We've had gales here too. Very dangerous this afternoon and it has caused havoc on our roads. bringing the horses in was an experience, especially as Sab wa sin season and burst through the fence like a loony then danced in front of the boys. Carzy bag that she is.

We are all fine thanks, it wasn't as bad as expected. I went down this morning and took the fence down to let the little ones out, checked the implements and nothing had moved at all so that was a huge relief.
All the animals were drenched and their rugs/fleeces must have weighed a tonne, but apart from that everything was perfectly fine - PHEW!
Today has been cold with showers here and there but nothing major and the wind has dropped.
