Had a break from sending Molly to the stallion last year, but going to give it one last try, this year. I have been sending her May/June, but it has been suggested to try her later in the year. Its so frustrating because she comes in season strong enough before she goes to the stallion, comes in when she is there and is covered ok. She never comes back into season when she comes home and you can definitely tell with Molly - anyway, different stallion, and we may fall lucky. Lets hope so.

Good luck Mair, I hope that it is third time lucky Someone said to me that earlier in the year is sometimes more successful as their fertility tends to drop off as you go through the year, but I know nothing of such things ;D

Fingers tightly crossed that a different man will do the job for her

Echo Zelda, if anything I woudl try earlier (if you have the facilities for early foals) and cover April time. We had 100% fertility with our stallions last year for those mares we covered between March and the beginning of May, we covered early last year because of mum's op and we had v.little problem getting our mares in foal but later in the year (with the weather changes last year and all that rain) we heard that there had been a lot of difficulty with mares returning but by that time all our mares had caught because they had been covered early.
Good luck!

I would definitely suggest sending your mare earlier rather than later in the breeding season. Once you notice that first season, make your arrangements to send to the stallion.

I have always thought sending to the stallion the earlier the better, but it was actually a Dales breeder who suggested leaving it until later, as they had problems with a couple of their mares, and they found that they both caught later in the year.
Our ponies are on high ground, and spring and summer are usually late coming to these parts, so I would prefer a mare to foal no sooner than early May - although we have had snow in June .......

That's true, Mair, we've been caught out in dreadful snow storms in April in your area. I can see it does make the decision difficult for you.........

good luck Mair, I hope she does the job for you this time I thought earlier was better. all ours caught first time when we sent them last year and we tried the year before with one of them, but much later and to no avail are you telling us who you are sending her too or would you prefer to keep that to yourself. Don't mind if you do, just being nosey

Hmm ...well not arranged anything as yet, but did discuss the matter at a show last year!!
There are one or two stallions that I do like - and I do not want to have to travel too far. I think covering her in hand is the better option this time. The stallion owner has offered to bring him over to us so Molly is on her own patch as it is.
With her being up on that hill side I cannot say I have seen her come into season yet. It usually happens at the Dales Spring show though, when she sees all the stallions. Honest, she is fine when she leaves home, gets out of the trailer, and bingo, there is no holding the little madam!!!

We took Aster, Diana and Joanne to the Spring Show year before last and they all three came into season during the day, Mr Urwin came and parked next to us

LOL Penny!! Having one mare in season at the show was bad enough. She was squealing and squirting at everything in sight. I don't know how you coped with three .......I am sorry but I am having a giggling fit at the thought of your three mares, and Mr. Uriwn parked next door. I am surprised he did not move somewhere else .......
