I know we're all still bundled tightly, but I'm looking ahead to fly traps and fly sheets and ways to tackle the miserable Missouri heat. I found these in my latest 'Equus' magazine www.equinekoozie.com/ You soak them in water, and then it keeps your pony cool for up to 6 hours! I contacted the company and they tested them in Virginia which has the same high humidity we encounter here, and they held up. As they also come in bubblegum pink, I think I'll order one for Blossom. It should come in very handy round the Fourth of July

Is the 4th July like our 5th November - lots of fireworks? Transat explanation needed I'm sure it'll be very fetching anyway

Oh sorry! Yes, the 4th of July is very much like your 5th of November with the fireworks, but traditionally for the area I live in its HOT!!! Miserably so.
It marks the time of year when we transition into the 90* and 100*F heat for the next two months. Much of the grass is burnt by then, and we have high humidity which makes cooling via evaporation nigh on impossible.

She adapts surprisingly well to our heat. I make sure to go out and put the blue cool packs into her water around noon to 1 in the afternoon to stave off the heat for her. She appreciates having cool water to drink. And much of the time she spends in the shade. She didn't the first year she was here. ;D Blossom did all sorts of whizzing about in the full sun in the heat. I did warn her, its not something you do here. Same with our black cat. Both of them threw their noses in the air at me, whizzed about for all of about 10 minutes, and both promptly looked like heat exhaustion cases. LOL, got them both cooled down, and yes they've begrudgingly adapted their patterns. Blossom's fly mask is a light pink colour, so it does a brilliant job of at least keeping her head cool when she's determined to be out in the sun. Its as close to a big rimmed hat as she can get. LOL, although she used to love coming and standing with her head shoved under the brim of my sunhat ;D Its just a matter of adapting is all.

That does look like a good idea for places with a climate like yours.
