The colic risk would worry me I am afraid, but fingers crossed that all goes well, and D comes into season.

It worries me too Mair but the alternative is to leave it and maybe have an infertile mare for the rest of her life. The thing is, I'm not sure that D will be happy kept for years on a small starvation paddock without a job to do. I can't ride her, she is an incredibly good doer and there is a limit to the groundwork I can do with her in the field. She is only 15 and hopefully has a good few years left in her! The whole of the putting into foal scenario has risks attached to it and having weighed it up I've decided it's a risk worth taking for quality of life. Maybe others will disagree but that's what I've decided.

It's not going to stop me having palpitations tomorrow though! God, I hope she will be ok....

wiyhout the scan we wouldn't know what the problem was or how to treat it.I wouldn't hesitate to inject my mare as the problem cannot be doing her anygood anyway.fingers crossed for a calm day.

D is ok! She sweated profusely after she had the injection. Julie said it was as though someone was holding a watering can above her! She didn't do anything dramatic though like kicking her stomach or rolling, she just stood with her head down a bit and Julie could see the contractions ripple over her abdomen. Anyway, she perked up, ate some hay, drank some water and was walked round in the sun to dry/cool off. When Julie was happy she took her back to her field where she galloped from 0 - 90 mph very quickly up the field, rolled, then got down to some serious grass eating. So far so good. Will check in again this evening then we've got to wait till Friday afternoon for the scan results to see if "it's" gone. I really hope so or she's got to go through it all again.
Thanks for all the vibes guys!

I really should have said a big big thank you again to Julie and Anna for their loving care. On top of all their work and worry today they've also poo picked D's field so D's poos can be monitored to make sure she doesn't get colic! Everything done and beyond the call of duty I think! A million thank yous!

Good news this morning! D is apparently boinging and turbo charging round the field absolutely full of herself. This sounds much more like my pony coming into season! Perhaps the prostaglandin injection has worked? I hope so. Fingers crossed for her scan early Friday afternoon.

I haven't any experience of this Linda, but I wish you all the best in your endeavours! I hope you have great success, D is such a lovely pony and will make a wonderful mum! Diana is 14 and had her first foal this year, we tried the year before but to no avail and she has been fine and it was worth it. All the best to you
