Thought I would put Cherry's future threads on Schooling as it's basically how she's coming on after being backed!
She had her third hack out today, again with Cilla my neighbour and her horse Ryan. We've gone a bit further afield each time and today we went on a longer stretch of busier road, to a large grassy field we are allowed to ride around. We encountered cars, vans, a motorcycle, a tractor and a lorry - all of them were very courteous except a rather stupid milk delivery driver who apparently did not notice Cilla's vigorous hand signals to slow down! He did eventually but only when Cilla had to practically stand her horse in front of his lorry .
Cherry didn't really take much notice of any of the vehicles, she was more bothered about what might jump out of the hedges LOL! We got into the field, walked, trotted then had a little canter, she was really good and didn't get silly at all - although I feel she could be strong if she wanted. I then made her turn round and ride away from Ryan, and also cantered her away - she was good as gold and did exactly as she was asked. So that's another step forwards, riding her in a big field and away from another horse!
Next time when we canter we will take it in turns to go in front and overtake, and also ride her out of sight of Ryan to guage her reaction.
It takes a lot to really get to know how your youngster will behave in all situations, but very rewarding when things go right ;D. I am not complacent though, knowing Cherry as I do lol - but so far, so good!! ;D ;D
