I agree, you're making wonderful progress together A lot of older horses wouldn't have tolerated the charging cows nor the lorries passing so closely.

I've not ridden Cherry for a week and the girl has been in a right strop today, booting out at Remy non-stop in the field and I had a flatwork lesson booked tonight . As it's the wrong time of month for me as well I wondered if it was a good idea LOL! I bought her in and she was having a real temper tantrum, nearly gave me a black eye with her head and was generally hyperactive and stroppy. Anyway she loaded onto the lorry (but tried to go straight back out) and I just managed to tie her up before she changed her mind! She was stamping, pawing and neighing the whole journey and had worked up a real sweat by the time we got to the college. I envisaged having a real battle with her, but once I was on board she was good as gold!! ;D She was really forward going, off my leg, and did absolutely everything I asked of her. She was well behaved with two other horses in the lesson although I did say she could be handy with her back legs so don't get too near! I don't think I will work her hard until I can clip her as she was absolutely drenched by the end of the lesson, but I am soooooooooo pleased with her again ;D ;D

Good for you for persevering Gill! I think a lot of us would have left it till another day! LOL! What a good girlie again. She really does seem to enjoy the work you are giving her.

Well done Gill! It looks like Cherry is going to be the sort of pony who thrives on work and mental stimulation. ;D

Well Cherry has surpassed herself again today ;D. Took her and Dancer down to Lesley's to ride around the beautiful country estate where Lesley lives. Anna and I had planned to go on a Fun Ride but I thought that it might be better that Cherry gets gradually introduced to other ponies rather than thrown in at the deep end with a lot of possibly mad horses! She travelled well but was very sweaty when she got off the lorry - she has a full winter coat and I expect is still stressed by travelling. So I had to hose her off before the ride! Lesley brought her lovely Fell pony Storm and Cherry was good as gold, the only things she didn't like were the puddles . She went in the middle, behind and even led for a while although was not very forward going in the lead lol. We got to the top of the Brown Clee Hill (highest point in Shropshire) and were going to ride over it but there was a herd of wild horses on the path (with stallion) and also the ground was very boggy which meant we would have had to jump some bogs - and as Cherry does not like water we thought we had best not chance me coming off in the middle of the herd into a bog . So we rode back down and went the long way home. On a couple of occasions Lesley and Storm went off ahead so Anna and I could have a gallop - even though Cherry was behind Storm she just stood still while Storm cantered off - I couldn't believe how good that was for a four year old not long hacking out! She also stood stock still while I leaned up her neck trying to open/close some gates - what a little . She did not get hot or silly, and acted like a pony far more mature than her years. She is not very fit but I hope to be able to clip her soon and then perhaps she will cope better with the work and travelling. I am even more thrilled with her now!!!! ;D ;D I did take some pics on my phone but I can't get them to upload ...

Wonderful, Gill! No wonder you are thrilled with Cherry, what a star! She is turning out to be a superb riding pony! Does this mean Saturn will be side lined?! I'm not suprised she had to be hosed down before the ride It was amaziningly hot here today too and Harvey is the same. He's getting clipped tomorrow...........

Does this mean Saturn will be side lined?! Well I did take Saturn out on Thursday around Nesscliffe, but he was like riding a snail as he was so unfit and has a full winter coat. I really have to clip both him and Cherry - hopefully a job for this week weather permitting!

Best of luck with your clipping for the both of them. I'm sure they'll feel so much the better for it. How interesting! Blossom and I are in synch for 'our time of the month' as well. And I have to say, heaven help the rest of the world when it happens. Both of us are 'in a mood' and I daresay we both have the same opinions. She's in a witch/twitchy mood, but rarely at me...and we both pull the same faces Poor Eldon and Galahad don't stand a chance! So much for the 'fairer' sex I'm so glad the little girl's behaving so impeccabley well for you though!!! That's an awful lot for a newly backed pony, and still she's taking it all in stride, even during her seasons. What a little !!!

It was lovely to see you and Anna yesterday, Gill, and you are right to be very proud of Cherry - what a she was She seemed so much more mature than her 4 years and I am amazed that she didn't leap around when I took Storm ahead - I know Storm wouldn't have been so calm under the same circumstances ;D I am so happy that Storm coped with the long ride including canters after her recent bad COPD attack - it wasn't that long ago when I didn't think she would ever be able to undertake a hill ride again Come up again soon and we will go over the hill (and brave the wild ponies ;D) and I will take you to see Poppy and we can try Cherry through the ford at Clee St Margaret.
