Rosebarr Gambler Foaled 10/8/99 Sire: Rosebarr Laddie Dam: Abbymead Mary Girl Finished out at 13.3hh I know that Kim (mabel) bred her mare Jazz to him to have her fantastic foalie Josie. Does anyone else have a foal from him?? Just curious what his other offspring might be like.

Think all those Gambler babies that Evie has posted are up for sale with Jim Rust at Whispering Willows? Are you contemplating a new addition Debbie Or a romantic liason for Blossom

He's indeed at Whispering Willows, and I haven't talked at all to the Rusts about it. I was simply looking towards the future for possibilities. With Blossom being on the small side, I need to look towards stallions that are 'very small' according to American standards. I don't want her killed by too large a foal on her first foaling. I'm only at the window shopping stage, so no plans to be popping her into foal yet. I was hoping to see what kind of foals he threw, having only known about Kim's Josie from him.

OOooo that's exciting Debbie. Have you spoken to Blossom about it You must keep us posted! Although Blossom is "small" in terms of height, I don't think she is overly small in terms of her body conformation and therefore her ability to carry a foal So as long as you didn't choose a monster stallion, she will hopefully be fine. Are there many stallions in the States that are not around 14.2HH? At least you will have lots of options re. colour! It's good to window-shop first - have fun

Thanks Helen! I shall indeed keep Dalesfans posted first and foremost if/when we put Blossom into foal. I'm always overly worried about the size differences, even though I know she's a chunky girlie. I'll admit, I'm an overly protective mummy, plain and simple. But many of the stallions run up to full height. Blossom herself is at 13.3, so its not that the stallion has to be overly small, its just that I don't want her to run with a 14.2 stallion for her first experience..... at all, be it natural or AI. Heaven help me when I get to that lecture with her She was positively petrified when she met the neighbor's stallion last year at training. I really have no idea what's available stallion wise in the US. I just haven't paid attention at all, so I guess for now, a bit of window shopping ;D

Anna imported 99/13 Gullivers Smuggler in 2006 and he was transferred to Rolene Wooldridge in Kentucky. No idea how big he is though, or whether he is still entire, or whether he stands to outside mares, or how closely he is related to Blossom. Not much use am I! I just recall that he was nice You'll have fun doing the research, even if you decide not to go for it Edited to add - found Forest Hills website now. You probably know it anyway Debbie. Smuggler is 14.2 www.foresthillsdalesponies.com/forest-hills-dales-ponies-stallions.html

Ooooh, thanks Helen! I've always had my eye on Smuggler, but no, I didn't know about these people. Seems I've been out of the loop Dales wise in America. I just haven't needed to pay attention, so there's quite a few of them getting out there. I rather liked that photo of the fella on Sowermire Larry. LOL, I had to go back for a second look because Larry looked so much like a mare to me Maybe its because I remember the Barker's Sowermire Diane? He looks very much like her in build and head..... sorry Larry, I don't think I'm helping your case here LOL My criteria for a potential future daddy to foalie is: smaller size, really want no larger than 14 or 14.1 if I can. And I'm looking for a very laid back, very sweet temperment. Blossom's sweet, but can be very sensitive to things. I'd like to see if I can find a stallion's temperment to help even the keel so to speak, and have a more mellow outlook on life. Next on the agenda is those legs and feet. Blossom's got excellent limbs (and yes, I'm totally biased with her), but I'd still prefer the legs to be nice and chunky and no weediness, but nice and clean. Good hooves, naturally. And the rest will follow. I'm not that fussed about colour. I would love to find a grey that can match all of that, but I'm not going at the idea from colour first and foremost. It would just be the icing on the cake so to speak. I thought once Blossom had safely foaled out, that she might be able to take a larger stallion for further foalies, but like I said, for a first occasion, I'd love the stallion to be smaller for easier delivery. LOL...with all this to match up to, I can see it will be a looooong time looking, but that's most of the fun. ;D Besides, given the current economic climate with horses/ponies in the US, I'm really not in any rush to put Blossom to foal. Valerie, the exchange rate used to be 2 of our dollars to 1 pound. I haven't paid attention as of late, so it might still be at that, or the pound might've gone down a bit. So just to say the starting price would be 10,000 pounds for the $20,000 mare.

At today's exchange rate, $20,000 is £13545 That would suggest that dales are still pretty expensive in the States, despite the current economic climate. Still, you have to find a buyer..... Can you get me a green card please Debbie? I've always fancied living in Vermont

I've never been to Vermont, but I'm told that just like Oregon, the state has no sales tax. Smuggler's new home is located in Kentucky, though. I should say that's an honest two day's hard driving from Vermont. Probably closer to three if he's on the western side of the state. Clydesndrums would know that better than me, given that Brian used to drive all over. Ah, yes, the dales prices are high over here. For one thing they are still incredibly rare. For another, they're placed in the warmblood bracket for prices. But as Helen says, you've got to find the buyer.
