Well I'm back after another visit to Hillside. For those who feel we might be putting D off I can assure you we are quietly entombed in the caravan and I can tell you there are moments when we don't breathe for the suspense, nevermind talk! D gave us another moment today when she looked uncomfortable and stood with her head hanging then eventually got down on the grass.............oh my goodness there was tension.... but it was a very short rest....... When she has been grazing and happy Linda has checked her udders which are much firmer than previously and she wants to stress she has only squeezed gently the once ( ) but there was a watery liquid for the first time. I have added a link to some pics of them all.... Saturn looking over just to check no one is feeding D more than him! Let's hope that tonight brings some action (!) and good news. www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1775977&l=ce91483005&id=581802617

Woops I forgot the most important question which was to breeders (DOH!). How long after milk is produced can we expect foaling? And yes, I think by now Linda would like it exactly in minutes if you don't mind!!! Haa haaa.

Fingers crossed it's tonight - your stress levels must be sky high.
I love the look on Linda's face in that first pic such concentration

.... she has only squeezed gently the once ( ) but there was a watery liquid for the first time. Hate to say this but "clear and watery" is only the first stage ofmilk production. As the pregnancy nears full-term the milk should go through a series of standard changes from clear and watery to : thin but cloudy, then yellow-tinged and increasing in viscosity, then pale amber coloured and syrupy-thick - this means foaling could be imminent or a few days! This is the type of milk that may form beads of 'wax' on the teats. ...then finally to opaque white (but the latter change can happen very rapidly and may not be noticed at all). Note these are "standard" changes and not all mares follow this pattern! So she could go a little while yet, or she may speed through the stages. Unfortunately there's no hard and fast timescale to it. Some mares milk changes very rapidly. Others over 2-3 weeks. Sorry I can't be more specific Linda - I know how stressful it can be, but try and relax and enjoy D's final few hours/days as a "single" girl
