I hope he is Lucy. I think he would be laughing, he promised me it would be a filly (with a wink) Funny, he promised me that too! Mind, I have just had a filly last night! Not mine nor a Dales, but absolutely beautiful, and probably will be bay roan! Beat you to it Helen! Tim is well excited as he's never met a foal before!!

Oh no - take it Caroline didn't have this problem with Ed foal?
Hope the little girl picks up soon. Are you holding the fort alone Lucy or is Jenny still there?

Thanks ladies. Jenny is still away working in France, back Monday. She has been distraught, poor lady. There have been 3 of us on foal watch. Ed was fine (and her previous babies I think) so this was unexpected, but she has been running milk for a week. Baby was 3 weeks early too. She (baby) is a strong little thing and the prognosis is good (if very expensive!). Sorry to have hijacked your thread. My heart goes out to all of you that have had (or are having) problems or have lost foals. The anguish is terrible and she's not even mine! I pray for all the foals to come to be easy and problem free. Off to get some sleep now, and a lie in tomorrow! Joy!

Glad you're not alone Lucy Out of interest, how did you know that the immunity value of the colostrum wasn't good enough? How's the little girl today? Slight foaling drama here too, but we now have our second colt Kingmaker Apollo after a 12 day wait I am looking forward to my bed too!

The vet that came out did a blood clotting test which let them know. Foal was a bit "quiet", sleeping alot, scouring badly and not suckling much, where as she had been cantering about in the morning. We bottle fed her and she perked up and started feeding herself when the vet arrived! Temp as normal. Lucky the vet did the test I suppose. Procolin for the poos (which I had anyway), and bye bye little girl & Kaz. Having 2 plasma ivs today but is doing ok. The bill is going to be astronomical. Names I've come up with so far are: 1- Fortune - cos the semen cost a fortune and she's supposed to make Jen a fortune, she'll have now cost her a fortune too! (that got bounced as it becomes "Cookie" and Jen didn't like that) 2- Lunar Eclipse - as she has a small cresent star and was born at full moon when the storm clouds were eclipsing the moon 3- Hunter's Moon - for obvious reasons She probably won't get called any of them but it is keeping me amused! Helen, lovely to hear you've had another BOY not so lovely you've had a drama. I hope Mum and Apollo are okay? Good vibes to you too.

Just to let you know that "Lily the Pink" is back home and well on the mend, if terrified of humans!
Does she count to go on your list, Helen?
She's a show jumping stallion, out of Caroline (DWB).

great and long may it continue. Looks like you need to spend lots of time reading books near Lily the Pink, so she can learn to trust humans again. She will soon be fine.
