Yesterday we popped over to the vets with Mister for a quick lookover and to change his meds. Someone was becoming more difficult to pill. My hand was starting to look like Swiss cheese (and the sad part was that he wasn't even trying to bite). I'd get the pill down his throat, turn round and he'd hoik it back up, so I'd have to do it all over again I asked the vet if we could switch to injections because I'm worried about underdosing and letting the staph have a chance to regroup. The vet was lovely and pilled Mister for me yesterday and I have 4 more days of injections. We'll see at the end of that if we continue with the last 4 days of pills or if the vet wants to change the antibiotic at that point. Late last night as I was dozing off, I could hear Mister trying to climb who knows what in the small bedroom. Clearly he's feeling much better in himself and is getting into mischief already

Well very sadly we had to go back to the tablets after 4 days of the injections. Yesterday we went to have his vet check Mister over. All of us are very happy with the wound's progress. The upper shoulder especially is mending well, however the armpit area is bothersome. I'd thought we'd somewhat stalled out with the progress and there was swelling/slight discharge in his armpit. The vet looked it over, was pleased with the granulation that was happening around the elbow, but he wasn't too thrilled with the slight discharge either. Mister's been on 13 days of tablets of Baytril, plus 4 days injections of Baytril, plus 2 days more injections of the same when he was at the vet's. We all decided it was time to change the antibiotic 'just in case' and sadly we have to carry on with tablets for another 14 days To make matters worse, the vet warned that this particular antibiotic could be rough on the throat, so we have to get the tablet down and then trickle water in afterwards to get the tablet all the way to his stomach. This won't be easy as Mister's already decided phoey on taking tablets. Each day is that much harder and he's gotten very good at spitting the tablets out. We'll perserve as best we can. If Mister becomes too uncooperative, we'll go back and switch him to a different antibiotic that can be done via injections, but really at 14 days, that's a bit too much for injections. So any 'swallow the bloomin' pill already' thoughts you can muster would be grately appreciated

Glad he's being naughty in the bedroom - definitely a good sign that he's feeling better in himself. Sounds like the tablet dosing is a nightmare. Cats can be such determined battlers when they want to be Could you grind the pills up into strong liver pate or is he one of those canny lads who would know and refuse any adulterated food?

Hiding it with food is a good idea, and I'd already tried that. Very sadly he cottoned onto it way too quickly (like the first try ) , spit it out and was refusing his food completely. Yesterday he took the first one relatively well Eldon's getting the actual pill in. I think it might be that his fingers are longer? He seems better able to get the pill much further in and down Mister's throat. I wasn't too sure how he'd do with the water, but all in all Mister did fairly well for our first attempt. He was beyond ticked at the manhandling, but considering all the mauling he's been through this year with this wound, he's been exceptional at co operating. In fact, without his co operating, we wouldn't have been able to do nearly so much to help him. I'm just grateful that afterwards, he seems to shake it off and doesn't hold a grudge. Knock on wood of course So, Day 1 of the new tablets down....only 13 more to go
