We're on the 2nd day of storms and this one is supposed to be the worst of the three. Currently the winds are holding steady at 45mph and wind gusts have just registered 93mph.
I tried to set the garbage out for pickup and it darned near flew out of my hands. I decided it's not a good idea, and wheelied the bin back inside.
I've got to go back out in a few to give hay to the ponies. Looks like it will be a challenging day. I wonder if we'll get to keep our electricity?

Same here oddly--opposite side of country! Ponies don't seem bothered at all, though but everyone is rugged up in rain sheets--watched the Dales racing around and playing for half an hour, running like mad after each other, bucking and leaping in pouring sleet/rain and terribly slippery conditions out in pasture. Not one foot wrong--very impressed!

Yesterday was one rough ride the ponies all decided it was a good day to munch hay and sleep. I'm just happy we could keep the roofs, some of the winds were truly wicked. Our summer field is back underwater, ditto for some of the main field. It's been raining steadily throughout the night, but at least the winds are died back for now. Today's forecast is supposed to be a repeat of yesterday so I hope we can keep our electricity and wish me luck, we have to drive my little white truck and the SUV north for a repair appointment. I don't suppose there is a good time for car repairs. LOL, I can imagine your Dales bucking and chucking about in that mess. Blossom used to hurl herself all over having fun, even with six inches of ice underfoot. They have amazing surefootedness.

Wow that must be terrible!! We've got 27mph winds here and that's bad enough for me!! Today I had my lesson so had to ride Cuba about 1/2 an hour down the road to my instructors house...that was fun in the wind with an already spooky arab! We got there in the end and despite some spooks at jump wings that were laid down on the floor he relaxed. In 95mph winds I bet you can barely walk!!

Gosh, glad you survived the gales unscathed and hope there is nothing worse to come. Hard for us over here to imagine what it must be like. As Yanny says, the winds we get here are quite enough!

Wow Debbie, Oregon and northern CA have really been hit hard. The flooding sounds disastrous. They're saying this is the strongest storm in five years with winds well over 100 mph? Seven foot waves on Lake Tahoe! Keep those ponies dry and warm and fingers crossed you don't lose power. At least when we lose ours in a winter blizzard, we can use the porch as a fridge and cook on the wood stove! Still snowing here but right at the freeze line so hoping it will warm up and melt. Rode Lad bb in snow today but he wouldn't go out into the big meadow where we have our "few furlong field"--just stood there snorting at uber- alert and making faces at whatever was getting his Dales up on the wooded hill. Don't know if it was a bear or a bear hunter, but both equally dangerous. I took his word for it and we went down the hill instead. I always trust his common sense!
Stay dry!

I agree, always listen to your pony if he doesn't want to go somewhere he normally goes cheerfully As for the storms, we're still alive! Still intact and the flooding is there in the fields (knee high in some places I've gone this morning), but not bad all in all. I've been out, rebuilt my fence in five places (courtesy the elk) and turned out everyone. The three riding horses all frolicked and showed off, but I don't think Blossom and Dundee got above a mild walk. I'm pretty sure the storms kept them awake. Today is partly sunny, with a few showers due, but at last the winds have died back. I think our stiffest winds were in the 90mph range, although a few of the gusts could have gone over 100. It wouldn't be the first time. They say our seas were supposed to be 20-35feet tall, so like the height of a 3 story building I haven't gone near the beach yet, but Eldon and I used to walk on them in full storms when we lived in Florence and Lincoln City. It's a bear to stay upright in 100+mph winds, very difficult to walk against them too. During the height of the storm, I watched Gronk wing overhead like a 747. I thought it amazing he was safely aloft at all, and he quickly was blown out over the fields and towards the point. I hope he found a safe place to weather the storms. Boy, I wouldn't want to try riding an Arab type in 27mph winds, you must have a seat like velcro! I simply put everyone up in the barns and at the most I handwalked Blossom and Dundee a few times. That was more than enough for us.

Pleased you all survived the storms, makes me feel lucky we don't get such extremes of weather.

Well, for a Public Safety Announcement, we never ever go near the water when we visit the beach for these storms. Nor do we go out on the jetties. I rarely venture near a jetty anyways, but you'd never get me out there for a winter's storm. Personally I do love the winter storms we get, but it's nice when the wind settles at the end. I wonder what the storms have brought up this time? this is the best time to go beachwalking for treasures. And this morning, Eldon spotted this: One end of the rainbow is in our main field, the other end was in Blossom and Dundee's field! Mister of course had to supervise...

I've never seen a photo of a rainbow like that; it's amazing. I always loved rainbows. I bet you're glad the storms have eased off slightly. I'd be so frightened of huge waves like that. Waves scare me!! To be fair I learnt to ride on a very naughty, stubborn cob with an extremely short back and big movement so everything felt 10000 times worse than it was, so my seat is probably the only good thing about my riding lol!!! What was wrong with Mister by the way? Everyone seems to be saying he looks better? He's so cute
