I picked her up today
She is a 12 y o Dales X mare, 14.2hh all black with just a large star, her name is Connie and she is very laid back and calm. She is quite a forward going ride but absolutely safe and gave me lots of confidence when I tried her, I even popped her over a little jump, she is also absolutely 100% in traffic, I rode her along a very busy main road with cars and lorries whizzing past her at 60mph every few seconds, she even passed right next to men up trees with chainsaws and a wood chipper making a hell of a racket, while a large lorry was passing the other side of her. She also drives and is used to being driven through the centre of Chelmsford (very busy, I found it stressful driving the lorry through the town today).
She loaded and travelled well, she never took her nose out of her hay net all the way home, when we got home it was raining heavily and Em and Silver were waiting to come in so I left her on the lorry and got them in first, she never murmured. She unloaded calmly and walked into the building as if she'd been there all her life, totally ignoring the two ponies as she walked past, into her stable, ate her feed and polished the bowl and then immediately tucked into her hay and didn't move. Em was craning over her stable door desperate to say hello, but Connie's priority was stuffing her face.
She has been with the same family for 10 years since she was 2 and has now been outgrown by the youngest daughter, she's not done much for a little while and has recently had a respiratory virus, but passed the vet, so is very unfit so will need bringing back to fitness before we can do any pleasure rides.
She has very sharp teeth so have booked her in to have those done next week and have the saddle fitter the week after so it will be a couple of weeks before I ride her, but it will give her time to settle in and time for us to get to know each other.
I am over the moon with her and really looking forward to getting out and about on her and having some fun this summer.
I haven't got any photos of her yet but will try to get some tomorrow and post them.

No photos yet I'm afraid, took my camera this morning and the shutter/lens wouldn't open so I'll have to get Hubby to look at it. I've spent my morning redoing fences as it turns out Connie is an escape artist!! I ran a length of tape about 6 foot from the fence dividing her from the other 2 ponies so I had a walkway to get Em in without going through Connies field. After turning them all out went back to get them some hay, in the few minutes it took me she had broken the tape and was standing with tape and posts wrapped around her back leg waiting to be rescued. From the skid marks it looks as if she couldn't stop and skidded into the fence and broke it, I wonder whether she is used to electric fencing. So I replaced it with some wider tape and she immediately went underneath it, so next move was to put 2 strands of wide tape on tall posts, went back and started mucking out and checked on her 10 minutes later to find her back the other side of the fence again, fence still intact so she must have gone between the 2 strands of tape. Put her back, turned electric back on, turned my back and she was back through again, so removed the fence and now have no walkway. Then spent the rest of the morning running an extra strand of tape around the permanent perimeter fence to stop her getting any ideas about going between the tape there.
