Poor Fashion. I do hope everything is continuing to go well. I'm always amazed at how tough our ponies are.

I know the vets are doing an amazing (if expensive ) job, and she's on shavings which I thought would have been awful for sticking to it. Hoping she will be able to come home soonish 😁
Swab results came back and the ABs they are mixing with the dermagel are the correct ones, so that continues, she doesn't need the injected ones any more x

That's good then. Is she insured? I let Dolly's insurance go 2 months before she came down with the tumour. Typical!

No, not insured, none of mine are 😐 I suppose like everyone, you say well I wouldn't put a pony thru surgery, but then it's there, staring you in the face, and she's still only young ............
No pockets in shrouds my dad used to say ☺

My ex used to say ‘if you die in debt, you’ve made a profit on life’. He seemed pretty determined to ensure that happened 🙄

Yes, I was the same and said I wouldn't put a horse through surgery. With Harvey it was black and white, he had to be put to sleep but with Dolly we debated it for ages. But she was old and had other ailments so we know we made the right decision - last weeks article in Horse and Hound on Mast Cell Tumours confirmed it for me. But if it was a younger horse, like Eve, then of course I'd give her the chance if the vets advised. We'd all be rich without ponies but I wouldn't want to miss out on the joy and pleasure of just being with our ponies.
Hope Fashion is continuing to improve.

All still improving, vet said they'll keep her over the weekend and then we'll see if she can come home x
I've never insured any, but still consider I have not spent more than I would have paid in insurance over the last 18 years, plus I prefer to decide what and how I treat them, rather than the insurance company deciding 🙄

Yuk, that looks nasty. No wonder you had to take her back to the vets. Glad to hear she is doing and feeling well and hope they get the correct antibiotics so she can be home again soon. Keep us posted please. Debbie - I remember the Mister episode! He is quite some cat! I swear Mister whisked through at least 7 of his 9 lives for that episode still, when it was completely over, we marched right over with our piggy bank money and paid the vets out in cash on the spot. I did grill my vet, first on the phone, and then in person. I am keenly aware of just how much man power was needed to pull Mister through it all, and I was worried he didn't charge enough. My vet assured me the price was spot on and although they gasped, I explained, instead of doing insurance, we set aside piggy bank money (usually all of our change from say grocery stores and running around, basically wherever we end with change in our pocket, that goes into a jar). It's set aside for mostly animal emergencies. If anything happens, like what happened with Mister, I want the discussion to be ONLY between us, and the vets and I want him/her to give us the good/ the bad, the expensive/least expensive... basically what are the odds and how much so that we, as a family, can figure out our best course of healing and fully resolve the health issue, or if it's physically (medically) overwhelming, to say goodbye. Upshot is, I don't want some beancounting insurance agent getting in the way of me and my medical team! If my vet says X could help my baby, we'll be doing X and Right Now! That's the other problem, I've seen vets and their care hamstrung by needing to have the go ahead from someone who is... not a vet, not a medical professional giving the okay.
I'm relieved to hear Fashion is going from strength to strength! Looking at your photos, oh heck yeah I would've taken her back!!! I so hope she mends full steam ahead Over the years our piggybank has been tapped of course, but much like Alison says, this enables us to keep it between us and the vet and honestly, overally, I think we've been ahead. Seriously, by setting aside our piggybank money for our health emergencies, I think we actually are ahead. We are certainly able to have a much broader range of options with our vets and I have to say, with Mister, yes, his vet bill for the whole awful staph infection was well over $1,000 and that was with me grilling my vet because I felt it should have been more. We very happily paid promptly because Mister had prevent much more dollars worth of potential damage from Blossom and Galahad's hay stores and most importantly, our grain stores for the mushrooms which was the family business. Awesome cat aside, he completely upheld his end of the deal being a farm guardian.

Yes I completely agree about insurance. None of my ponies other than Eve, are insured. I gave it a lot of thought and decided to insure Eve because she is sooooooo accident prone but perhaps I should stop as she is getting more sensible now. That first year I had her it was unbelievable the scrapes she got herself into like the time she ran of with a 2metre square heavey grid of steel mesh attatched to her head! How she came out of thaqt unscathed I don't know. Or the time she got her head stuck in a big metal gate and pulled it out of the breeze blocks is was attatched to!

Oh my! I completely and thoroughly agree with you about insuring Eve! If one of mine were that accident prone, I'd definitely consider insuring, or would certainly be setting aside more piggybank money You know, fillies when they are younger do seem to go through an accident prone stage? Around the same time Blossom decided it was a good idea to get her head stuck in the side of her field shelter, some other filly clear across the country became famous for getting her head stuck in a tree of all things. Silly fillies! I know Blossom aged me in seconds with some of her antics. My goodness, Fashion's chest did not like those AB shots! Blossom had huge lumps when I had to give her penicillin ages ago. It took about 6 months, but they do eventually go away. I left them alone for the first couple of months, and then for the last couple of months, I'd massage them when I thought about it and they finally disappeared.
