I'm so bumming! I ordered a neck rug cover for Blossom as we are having our third storm of rain/snow/ice. It took extra long to get here, and despite going over Blossom's actual neck measurements twice, the cover was too small On top of that, their whiz bang attachment was nothing more than two very large pieces of velcro. They have nothing to attach to inside Blossom's blanket. ....sigh...even if I ordered the next size up, I couldn't get it to attach. Blossom was SO bummed when I took away the neck cover. Such a pity as she really could have used it tonight. I guess we're back to the drawing board.

Does she have clip rings on her actual rug? Only kneck cover I found to fit Mix was a Masta. Cant remember how it did up.... he's not wearing a rug yet!

I had thought there was a ring clip behind the fleece at the withers, but my memory was wrong. There's no clip there at all. I know the flysheet Nancy sent last year was an Amigo by Horseware. It has four different attachments with velcro. I'm looking at different rugs and neck covers tonight, but honestly none of them look like they would fit her correctly. What a nightmare!

I know! Rambo rugs suit mine- both have wugs although they do rub the base of the mane. Mickey's masta probably fitted him the best however I dont think the waterproofness is anywhere near that of Rambo. As a last resort to attach a neck piece temporarily Id stick her fly sheet under her turnout if the fly sheet has attachments for a neck piece but thats no good if the neck piece doesnt fit.

I don't think the flysheet would work, but its certainly worth a thought. The hardest bit with Blossom is her chest is so wide. The Amigo was a tight fit across her chest, and the Rambo we tried, even as a baby didn't fit her shoulders. And that was a shame, as the rest of the rug was so beautiful, and fit so well. I think with Blossom this will be a recurring theme, though, as she's such a broad chested girlie. The Hug system works brilliantly for her, just a matter of sorting the neck cover. I'm going to send back the too small one, and try the next size up. Sure hope it fits...and that Blossom doesn't outgrow it! Hmmmm....anyone know how hard it is to obtain the materials for these blankets? I'm beginning to wonder if Blossom will be needing 'custom tailored'....

I think that is a common problem with our Dales Ponies being so broad but short in length. I also found the Masta the best of a bad lot but in the end gave up and got a made to measure Snuggy Hood which has been the best solution.
I'm sure the company whose rugs you are using will send you over the material and with your teddy bear experience, I'm sure you would have no problems running something up yourself. Over here, all companies I've asked for some extra material have been very obliging.

What about a snuggy turn out hood Deb, we sell them in the shop, and we sell alot of them I have never used one but they do seem very popular.

How about a turn out snuggy hood, and if you speak to the company about breed size they seem to get sizes right 99.9% of the time. No worries about fixing it to the rug and they keep them warm and snugged. The but is they are expensive.

Yes, they are expensive but they are very tough - mine is 3 years old now and as good as new.

Well I've looked at the Hug company itself and thankfully it looks like they do custom and semi custom orders, so in the future I'll be able to get Blossom's blanket and hood completely done to suit her. The main reason I wasn't keen on the snuggy hoods is that we've been having rain and snow mixed.....so I need something that's waterproof and breatheable for her neck. That's the whole reason I need the neck cover to begin with. This weather's gone mental! I've never seen weather like this before in Missouri. I figured its better to be prepared, then I can take the neck cover back off when we don't need it, but have it on hand for when this crazy freezing rain does happen So now just to wait for the new hood..... paces even more...

Neck covers are a real pain! I am currently in the process of adapting dancers rugs and neck covers so the all fit each other and dont flap about! I am not particularly gifted with a needle it would appear!!!! I am sewing on D rings, additonal clasps - allsorts! Crazy madness - thats what it is!!!

My turnout snuggy hood so far has appeared to be waterproof and we have had some rain in the last few weeks. Might be worth asking everyone on the board as there is a good amount of us using the snuggy hood.

;D Her saga continues.... Tuesday the big box arrived with her new rug and neck cover ~ooooh!!! So I went out for a fitting. The rug is large on her, but I'd purposely bought it slightly large so it can hopefully last more than one season. Then we get to the neck cover. No amount of squeezing and telling her to 'suck it in' is going to make this fit properly. Its too small, way too small. But I'd checked the bag, they'd sent a large. Sooooo I drag the whole thing back inside and have an even better look at the tags on the neck cover ~ medium The manufacturer's had messed up! The neck cover itself is a medium, the sealed plastic bag from the company says Large. ....sigh....onto the phone with Dover Saddlery and a poor girl who acted like I was going to reach through the phone and rip her head off for the mistake. I just laughed about it and said I think the neck cover is jinxed because I'd just sent back a medium neck cover that was too small; hence the larger neck cover with the new rug to make it all fit. Bless her heart, she not only Fed Exed the neck cover to me, she's sending along a prepaid label so I can ship back the neck cover on their expense. The LARGE neck cover is supposed to be arriving today. So we shall see.
