Danny went to the vets on Thursday for his steroid injections into his hocks. He had the amount of sedative for an ancient shetland and was really sleepy bless him! Had to wait 45mins until we could put him abck in the trailer!!! Im going to keep him on Devils relief as it seems to really help.
He was a gem though, the vet and nurses all adored him.
Hes been on box rest to let his hocks settle until today when he went back out. Typically Im going away for a week but Carolyn is going to hack him gently for me a couple of times and then its just a case of building the work up gradually and seeing how he copes.
Fingers crossed.

Fingers and toes crossed for you!!!!! I know what you mean about the sedative! The first time Bob had them done, he was dribbling and blowing bubbles!! He was rocking from side to side, and sweating profusely!!! i was so worried. It was at least an hour before we could go home!!! As he is naturally laid back he obviously went far too chilled, so next time I requested that the vet use MUCH less sedative!!!!!! He was better that time and the dribbling wasn't as bad!!!!!

Kristy I was just down at my vets this morning, for routine cat vax, and saw a poster advertising a drug trial for horses with bone spavin. It's a CEVA organised trial, and the website link given on the poster was tildren.com (but when I look that up it doesn't say anything about the trial). So just did a quick search for tildren trial, and came up with this, older, link for H&H online: www.horseandhound.co.uk/horsecare/1370/60397.htmlThe poster at the vets said the trial was aimed at testing the effectiveness of the drug on horses still in work, so the idea is that the horses continue to do their work whilst either on the drug or a placebo. Also, the trial is only taking on horses which have been relatively recently diagnosed (I think it said in the last 12 months, but I'm not sure). Is Tildren the same drug that Southerner mentioned quite a while back now, in connection with navicular, I think? Anyway, just thought I'd mention in case there's any mileage in you and Danny going down this route. Sarah

I looked into tildren, its been licensed abroad for a while but never over here. My vet didnt seem very happy with it. I could be completely wrong but did Southerner not lose one of hers to the colic it caused? If you do want to look into it I think Rainbow surgery at Malton were taking part in the trial?? Glad he's sounder, fingers crossed!

Just a quick update on Danny.
Have very excitingly had a PMG lesson on him and he has done 2 prelim dressage tests in which he got 63.9& and 61%.
He is sound on Devil's relief but is very sore in his poll and back at the moment so its obviously still causing him pain. Has chiropractor coming on tuesday so will see after that.

Well that is good news then and great results in your tests! I hope the chiropractor can help him out on Tuesday. Is he sore from holding himself to compensate or something completely different?
