Well she is now galloping towards me whenever she sees me! The coronet band is going down and I can't see anywhere where it has leaked. I gave it a break from poulticing on Sat and Sun as it was all getting a bit soft but have started again now. Tis a mystery!

Mmm, do you think the swelling at the coronet band was simply due to the poultice drawing the flesh outwards like it does in very wet weather? Very strange but good news that she is sound.

I wondered that Pam. But Jane seemed to think it was going to burst.

How weird, but great to hear D is sound. I will email Richard and send him your email address, and see if he can contact you - I can't see why he would not have replied unless he has gone away.
He may be able to explain why all these things are happening!

Brilliant she is galloping around, maybe the ABs have killed it??? Im just thinking about when you have a tooth abscess and it just seems to disapear without bursting.

If it is the ABs, I hope she's been on them long enough to truly kill whatever caused the root of the problem. I remember being on them for nigh on a month and a half over a tooth abcess. I've just got my fingers crossed that its truly, truly gone and isn't just lurking to resurface again. I bet it was lovely to see her come pelting across to you though

FAbulous that she's galloping for you now! It sure can be a puzzle why they are sound one minute and sore the next. Just hoping she is over it.

I am watching like a hawk Lucy! Down on my hands and knees with my reading glasses! (Very BHS - not!) Haven't found a thing in the way of leakage and I'm down there as often as I can be watching her up and down the field. I'm really puzzled as the antibiotics wouldn't have got rid of it.

Well I was right. She was just waiting for me to post that she was ok. Today she is lame again! Had a hell of a job applying her hot poultice but she was pretty good about the hot tubbing. I've sent a text to the foot trimmer, no reply as yet. She did advise me to not call the vet but I would like her to talk me through it this time.
Your man hasn't been in touch Gill, do you think he is likely to? Have I got the right email address?
Oh well, fingers crossed it comes to a head this time and gets sorted out properly.

Oh no!!!! Well, perhaps it's for the best and you can finally get rid of this abcsess. I think hot poultices and tubbing is the best thing you could do now and then with her walking around on this hard ground, the abcsess will hopefully force its way out.
I wish I'd read this post an hour ago because I was talking to my old farrier (the one who treated Quest's abcsesses in the same way as Jane). I could have asked for his thoughts and advice - he is off work at the moment with what sounds like sciatica.
I really hope the d**n thing bursts out quickly now!

Horses! Let's hope, as Pam says, that this is for the best and you can get it drained and cleared up.
I do think this can happen with AB treatment. I've nothing against ABs for abscesses - but would use them at the end to mop up any residual nasties after the abscess has burst and drained.
Fingers crossed you can bring it to a head and out this time.......

Oh no, poor D - I was hoping that would have been the last of it!
PM me your email address Linda (just to make sure I've got the right one) and I'll email Richard.
