Went to lunge Bea again today - and there's no improvement, in fact I think he's worse than he was last week. He's going nuts on box rest and restricted turnout. When I arrived on the yard he yelled his head off for me and then called to me when I left him......it's just heartbreaking. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and get them out to do the nerve blocks and/or X-rays ASAP. There is at least plenty going on at the yard for Bea to watch at the moment now that all the liveries have come back after the summer break and riding lessons have started again during the week. My poor boy...

Oh no, Sue, I'm so very sorry. No wonder you are feeling upset and deflated. I think you are right to get x-rays or nerve blocks done now. At least you will know what you are dealing with. If it is some sort of arthritis (and we all have some degree of arthritis by a certain age, horses and humans) then box rest could easily make Bea appear worse than ever on the lunge at this point. You need answers from the vet now and I've got all fingers crossed for you and Bea.

I'm so sorry to read this Sue. I do hope they will do the nerve blocks asap for you then you may have some definite answers. It will be better to know either way. Lots of healing prayers winging their way from Lincoln. xxx

How heartbreaking I'd hate to hear him yelling for you like that. Yep, best to get out the xrays and nerve blocks, and try to find the source of the problem. I've got everything crossed

Oh no Sue, what a blow for you . I know how difficult it is with a horse that does not like being stabled When Dan injured his tendon, my vet advised that he keep moving with his particular injury, as otherwise adhesions would form which would restrict his movement even more. The vet said movement would prevent this. Perhaps it's a similar case for Bea? I do hope the nerve blocks or x-rays come up with a proper diagnosis so you know what you are dealing with.

I've just spoken to the vet and Bea is going to the hospital for the day on the 14th. He's said to keep him on the same regime - ie box and limited turnout - until he's had chance to assess Bea.
I'll just take every opportunity I can to go and spend time with him, but it's sod's law that next week I've got an evening meeting every day except Friday and won't be able to get there. Poor Bea......

Well that's good that you've got a day fixed for a thorough investigation at the hospital. I'm sure you will feel far less anxious once you know exactly what you are dealing with. What a pity it couldn't be done sooner or Bea could be allowed more turn out though. Is there anything homeopathic you could give him to keep him calmer and more settled on box rest? Might be worth a try as it couldn't hurt.
