Was it an infection? Im sure liver enymes increase then. Has the vet advised hibiscrub? Just wondering as Im trying to remember where (or if Ive dreamed) that hibiscrub slows the healing time of wounds down? Cant find a proper scientific link but www.labradorforums.co.uk/ftopic-43840-0-days0-orderasc-.html has a post about this

I was wondering about the hibiscrub, having cleaned the wounds once, and now applying general wound ointment. was also thinking about the camrosa as it has such good write ups.

I've never had much success with Camrosa - I just end up getting in a horrible mess but a lot of people find it good. Quest sometimes gets little sores and I find hydrogels work well for him. I like Veterinus Derma Gel best.

I've just had a huge success with intrasite gel from the vet. I had a rat who ripped out her own stitches three times and ended up with a horrible gaping wound with massive infections all around the edges. It was VERY nasty.
I used the intrasite gel for just over a week and it really made a difference to the sloughing off of old dead skin and the growth of fresh nice skin. Rats do heal incredibly quickly, but even so I was extremely impressed with the difference this made.

Intrasite can be bought from pharmacies- but you'll have to ask. They may give you a huge price- thats for a box of 10 so ask for a price for a single one. Ive found intrasite to be good- I also like hydrogels for wound healing.

Careful with intrasite - I used it on a Highland mare and it left the most horrendous proud flesh!
Camrosa is a sticky yukky mess but I find it does work and also keeps the flies off. (Mike gets burnt ears and uses camrosa on them to keep them soft!!)

Manuka honey is the best stuff going for any wound, kills all bacteria and viruses (even mrsa) is hypo allergenic and easy to use. You could even feed him some too. If you remember Simon and his massive wound thats all that got in it.

I'd second the Makuna honey. I once helped a friend wo had a horse with the most horrendous skin graft that kept breaking down. We used heaps of pure Aloe Vera gel and it actually worked. I ws very surprised- as was the vet. The wound very quickly healed.

thank you all for the help and advice, life here is going from bad to worse.... Curly's sores are slowely healing, certainly he has not developed any more which is great. All in all he has been improving greatly until today! I went into barn this morning, got the usual whinney when he saw me but, he did not want to get up. When finally he did, he is so lame in hind legs I cannot believe it. Yesterday he was walking around the barn, barely showing he had laminitis demanding dinner. Today he can barely walk and is in a lot of pain. I have rung the vet and they are coming out. Basically he has a big infection in his rear legs. the vet has polticed both feet but feels infection is seated in bulbs of heel so not sure how efficient this treatment will be, vet phoning in the morning and no doubt will be back out. Dont honestly know how much longer I can keep going. my husband, Paul, was taken ill last wednesday night, he is a farm worker and does not do ill! By Friday he allowed me to call doctor out, by Sunday he is rushed into hospital with either pneumonia or meningitis! He is really poorly and the hospital he is in is a 45 mile round trip! So I am there daily as well, I am so lucky that my work has allowed me time this week on compassionate leave. Also to top it off my mum and step father of 25 years have split, his choice, they did live in Spain, mum moved in with me last Friday..... When everyone is better/sorted out, please may I have permission to crawl into corner for couple of weeks.....

Oh Tina, I am so sorry to read this - everything seemed to be moving in the right direction in your last post and now this. I can't believe what you are going through and wish I was near enough to give you a propper hug and support. How dreadful to have Paul rushed into hospital like this. At least he is now in the best place to receive the care he needs and I do hope he makes a swift recovery. You must be in absolute turmoil with Paul so ill and Curly having more problems. Awful as it is for you Mum, it must be some comfort and help to have her at home with you. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
