OMG I can't believe you are having to cope with all this - life is so cruel sometimes. Do try to get a telephone appt. with the consultant treating Paul, it's what I had to do when my dad was in hospital and too far away for me to drop by. I'm so sorry Curly is having a setback - his immune system is obviously very weak by the sounds of it. I'm sending as many vibes as I can muster and am thinking of you xx

Has the vet not suggested getting Curly into a vet hospital? They would be able to monitor his condition and symptoms better surely? Also, I was thinking, it would perhaps give you a little break, and allow you to spend more time with Paul? You have got to be worn out with all thats going on.
Do hope you have some better news today regarding Paul and of course Curly.

Tina, having gone through the NHS system fairly recently with my grandfather, I know that you can insist that the consultant diaries time for you to discuss Paul's condition. We ended up meeting him after ward rounds so we got the information first hand. Sadly, you have to make something of a bully of yourself.
I hope Paul improves today and that Curly can find the strength to fight on.
Look after yourself too.

ring the hospital and ask for the consultants secretary and say you want to see him or speak with him tomorrow they have to fit you in but you may have to hang around.

Good news first.. Paul has turned a corner, he has definatly been diagnosed with viral pneumonia and pleurosy. he thought he had a pulled muscle.... He is starting to respond to treatment and hopefully be allowed home Tuesday or Wednesday.... Curly is a different case, Vet came this morning and took xrays, two of his legs (one fore and one rear) the pedal bone have rotated almost fully, there is very little space left between the bone and sole. I was totally devastated, I really thought we had turned the corner, he was alert, balshy but apparanty doing too much... We have bedded out his stable with about 6 inches of soft shavings, before he was in big barn. but, the vet has told me if no improvement in his condition by Monday we need to be having the dreaded discussion.... I am in total turmoil. I love this pony to bits, but will not see him suffer, Paul i cannot lay too much at his feet at he has enough to cope with, my mum bless her is doing such a lot but at the end of the day she has masses to think about as well. Thank you all for advice and kind words, it does mean a lot. thank you also for all the pm's I will respond and it means a lot but it may take time. I am typing this at 11 in the evining and we have only done hospital run, horses, dogs and finally dinner...... Thank you, Dalesfans has kept me sane....

Good to hear that Paul is improving.
So sorry about Curly - after all you have been through, this latest blow is so cruel. Prince my Shetland had severe rotated pedal bones when he came to me, , but my farrier assured me he had seen ponies really bad come through it, and Prince lived on for a number of years. Obviously every case is different, so you will have to see what your vet says.
Still sending those positive vibes for your Curly.

So glad to hear Paul is on the mend, an extra worry you really didn't need.
I'm hoping that by some miracle Curly will pull through, I can imagine what you are having to endure, as I went through the same with Pip.
Thinking of you x
