Think he has the dreaded lami, he has always been pottery on hard ground but yesterday seemed a bit more pottery than usual, although it was hard to tell as their field is rock hard. Today he was definitely walking stiffly on his front legs so I brought him in and he has pulses in all four legs. He could hardly walk on the concrete yard so he's now in a stable with rubber matting. I'll call the vet out tomorrow anyway for a firm diagnosis, but I think it almost certainly is. Sigh! Just before I am off on holiday for a week

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to read this & hope it's really not lami. You take such care about how much & wat they eat but I know it can happen, lets hope is't abcesses for something easier to cure. Topaz has been pottery last few weeks too but it's been a stubborn abcess, first one front foot and then the other.

Oh no, Gill! Poor Toby and poor you too. I hope there is good news today from the vet - maybe it is just bruising from the hard ground after it being so wet? Quest had raised pulses when it was just bruising. Either way, Toby is in the best place now and will be fine while you are away. Such a worry though.

Pam how long did Quest have raised pulses, before you could turn him out again? Is he okay now?

The vet has been and said I should treat it as laminitis so he has to be on box rest and on bute for a week, then come off the bute at the weekend and to see how he is on Monday. He will just stay in his stable for the following week as I'm not here but hopefully Dave will be okay looking after him (why oh why do these things happen when I am going away ). Thankfully Toby seems quite content to stay in!

It's sod's law isn't it Gill. All your herd are looking so well and slimmer than last year thanks to your grass management, and one gets lami! You're going to have to stop talking about going on holidays in their hearing LOL Seriously though - I hope Toby will be OK soon. I guess if he's having to be kept in, Dave will be wielding a muck bucket and fork next week? Poor Dave - he's such a star. Will keep checking for updates....

Try not to worry too much Gill. We won't be a million miles away, about 45 minutes I think and can always come back and see Toby with you if need be can't we? It's not like we are out of the country or anything.

Hopefully he will be okay under Dave's care. I've bought two extra rubber mats and just been laying them so the whole stable is covered and I'm going to do a thick bed - so all Dave has to do is muck out and feed (what would I do without Dave?!). Isn't it typical this is the first year I have been very strict with their grass intake etc and this happens

Quest's pulses were raised for 3 or 4 days but only very strong for one day. I find it quite hard to tell because they are always higher in warm weather and lower when it is cool. I still don't know if it was just bruising but I kept him in for 2 weeks - that was the period we were coming over to you so I felt he would be safer kept fully stabled. Like Toby, he is happy to stay in.
I've been turning him out for a week or so now, for up to 6 hours and his pulses seem to be better for moving around. So hard to know what to do for the best.
