The saddle is a standard size which IS a 17" Judith. I really can't recommend Enlightened Equitation enough - their customer service is second to none. Jill Shepherd who dealt with my complaint told me she used to have a Dales Pony she used to call UXB, short for unexploded bomb! So she knows what I am dealing with!

That's excellent news, Linda. I'm so, so pleased that this has been sorted out in such a professional way. It's good when one's confidence in a company - especially one you've recommended to friends and acquaintances - is upheld like this. What a good idea to chop your old saddle up to see what has happened. I'm impressed that they're going to do this - it shows great commitment to improving the product. D is going to be a very happy pony - and I bet your smiles go from ear to ear. LOL at the UXB!! It says it all doesn't it? LOL

That's good news Linda. I've always found EE helpful. With D's confirmation, if she was having a treed saddle she would need continental panels to ensure that the saddle did not dig in behind. These panels aren't new but it is surprising how many saddlers are not trained to spot this type of confirmation and deal with it appropraitely- hence people having problems and horses having sore backs. It is so easy to deal with- if the saddler is up to speed. WOW saddlers seemto understand this need and I've used a remedial saddler in the past who ensured that Mick Farrington built me a WH and a dressage saddle to deal with this problem on a particular horse. Both saddles were excellent.
Fingers crossed that your problems are behind you.

That's FAB news Linda!!! First Cashel replaces my saddle for a new one, and now EE with a basically new one for you....at the very least these companies are taking it seriously with their saddles! Can you post pics of the Phoenix on D when it gets there?? I'm curious to see what it looks like on her.

Great news Linda, I'm so glad for you and D that EE's customer service has come through brilliantly. I have to be impressed with this sort of professionalism and service. Other than my EE saddles once I bought the thing it was my problem and if it didn't work out for my horse all I could do was try to sell it (always at a loss). I'll be so interested to hear how you and D get along with the Fhoenix. It does seem that the inch shorter will be good for D and I like the velcro panels to allow for shimming. Let us know how you get on with it.

I have just read this thread through from beginning to end with great interest as a SMS saddle fitter. I will quite often recommend treeless saddles to my customers even though I don't sell them, as I think they often do a better job than the best fitting treed saddle especially on horses that have difficult conformation etc. However I always recommmend that they make sure that the saddle is well balanced with pads etc just like a treed saddle as I have come across hidious damage caused by pressure from a treeless saddle.
Linda, you are to feel no guilt whatsoever about D as you are a fab horseowner so do not beat yourself up about it at all.
Do let us know how you get on with the new saddle, I think its a great outcome from EE!
