I have a small thought in the back of my head that is rapidly growing arms and legs - or should that be hooves and heads?
Now we have secure land, I am seriusly thinking about buying a Dales mare for breeding, starting the Orrinside Dales Ponies. Trouble is, I'm a fussy beggar and want a grey one. I know a grey mare won't guarantee grey foals, but a grey Dales would be an ideal Endurance prospect.
There is a grey mare on the sales list on the DPS website, she's in Kent and is 1994 foaled, ride and drive. Her name is Broscoe Katie.
The thing is, she's a section B. Which doesn't bother me in the slightest as H is a Sec B too. BUT, does this have any implications for breeding? Could her foals be registered as Section A's? Or as she is a B will her foals be B's too?
Please excuse my ignorance, I've never bred before though have worked with foals, and don't really understand how the grading etc works.
Please help a complete novice!! Thanks

Jane, Daisy is a sec b and has had 2 foals in the past one of them is Heather's Rose who is a sec a and I think her first foal is a sec a too. any colts a sec b mare has are not eligible as licensed stallions( think I've got that right lol) so when you buy this grey mare from down south will you be requiring grazing for a night on your way home lol ;D

Steady Zelda!! I don't know anything about this girlie!! Though the little thought is growing....
I wouldn't be planning keeping colts entire anyway so that wouldn't matter.
I thought the main reason for being a Sec B was colouring and height - what else can make them into B's?

LOL Jane just trying to help you on your way ;D The stud book says Section B: By a registered, licensed stallion and :- a) out of either a Section A or B mare but displaying incorrect height or markings. b) out of a Section C mare and correct in type, height and colour

I THINK a filly out of a Sec B mare can be registered sec A, but a colt even if it is an A can't be a licensed stallion.
So you can get sec A fillies and colts but the colts could not be licensed to be bred from - someone correct me if I'm wrong!

I was sure Kim (mabel, now Tess) knew them from down south. From what I remember they were supposed to be excellent ponies with good temperments. Does anyone know if there are any Section ~C mares still breeding?? I'm another one who adores the grey ponies....Good luck with Katie, I'll bet she's a sweetheart!

i called him about this mare about 6 months ago and he said she was running on the marshes but he had a lady from scotland coming down to see her that weekend.she was backed to drive mainly but would be ok to break to ride and favoured trot but was a lovely mare. i never phoned back as friend i was phoning for didn't want anything too green riding wise.so i never found out if the lady from scotland went to see her. he was a lovely man to chat to.

I have a feeling I know who the lady from Scotland is..... no, it's not me! And she didn't buy her. I've heard since I first posted that all her foals have been Sec B's

I have a feeling this happens often with the grey lines because of too much white. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the greys when they are born have stockings too high, or like Blossom, may have mismarked faces. She's got a full blaze.
